SPECIAL RAY A. HEFFNER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED TO

The Mississippi Water and Pollution Control Operator's Association awarded Adrianna Nichole West of Tupelo their Ray A. Heffner Memorial Scholarship.  MWPCOA Treasurer Doug Barker of Flora presented the scholarship at the Association's 41st Annual Meeting in Bay St. Louis on July 22.

Ray A. Heffner was one of the “Founding Fathers” of the Mississippi Water and Pollution Control Operators’ Association.  He was the only operator who served as Association President for three separate terms - 1968, 1971 and 1984.  He received the Howard K. Williford Award in 1987.  He was Water Supply Operator of the Year in 1991.  He served as Treasurer of the Association from 1993 until 2003.  He served on numerous committees and as an officer in District 3 many times.  The Board of Governors voted to honor Ray for his dedication to the Association by awarding one-time Memorial Scholarship in his honor in July 2011.

Adrianna Nichole West is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Barry West.  Barry is a certified operator for ESG Operations at the Tupelo Wastewater Treatment Facility. 

Adrianna graduated in May from Mooreville High School with a 4.0 GPA.  She plans to attend Itawamba Community College in the fall and pursue a degree as a Physical Therapy Assistant.  She plans to continue her education at the University of MS in the field of Exercise Science after attending community college.  After she gains her degree from University of MS, she plans to pursue a degree in Physical Therapy from the Univ. of MS Medical Center.  She hopes to one day own a Physical Therapy Clinic and run her own business.

She received many academic awards during her high school years - Highest Academic 9-12 grades, All A’s 9-12 and Perfect Attendance 9-12 grades.
